Elective Requirements

 

Technical Electives

The objective of this requirement is to expand the student’s contact with advanced, "state-of-the-art" topics in the major field. This requirement can be satisfied by two of the following courses.
  • Any SYCS course numbered 300 to 499 (excluding required courses).
  • Any SYCS Graduate course open to seniors.
  • EECE-416 Microcomputer Design.
  • EECE-417 Computer Systems Architecture.
  • EECE-406 Advanced Digital Systems Design.
  • Any Mathematics course not required and having a Calculus prerequisite.
  • INFO-391 Introduction to Information Security.
  • INFO-393 Network/Internet Security Management.
  • Other courses approved by the department.

Non-Technical Electives

Six courses, each of at least 3 credits, are required. These six courses must include at least two offered by the same one department, and at least two more offered by another department. Among these courses must be at least one from the University’s African-American Cluster:

  • Any other course recommended in writing by the student’s academic advisor and approved by the department chairperson.

Free Electives

The purpose of this requirement is to allow the student to choose any course that will extend her or his education. At least three credits are required. These credits may come from more than one course. Courses offered by the Center for Academic Reinforcement (ACAD) may NOT be used to satisfy this requirement.
